Safety sensors that actually work
Garage Door Sensor Repair in Alva
Missing or crooked safety sensors are a frequent inspection item, and we restore the pair, check the wiring and prove that the door stops for obstacles.

Two Small Boxes With a Big Job
Near the floor on each side of the doorway sit two small sensors. One sends an invisible signal and the other receives it. Should anything interrupt that signal during closing, the opener halts and backs the door up. Without a working pair, many openers refuse to close from a remote at all.
The set in your garage may have been knocked, painted over, wired poorly or left off. We check alignment, lenses, wiring and indicator lights, replace what has failed and mount both units at the proper height, then prove the door responds to an obstacle.
What Failing Sensors Look Like
Door will not close from the remote
If it closes only when you hold the wall button, the sensors are probably misaligned, blocked or disconnected.
Blinking or dark indicator lights
Each sensor has a small light. A dark or flickering one suggests a wiring break, a dead unit or a bracket that has shifted.
One sensor missing or loose
A sensor knocked off its bracket or removed during a past project leaves the pair unable to see each other, and a safety function lost.
How the Fix Works
- 1
Inspect the pair
Both units, their brackets and the wire running back to the opener are examined for damage, dust, sun glare and loose connections.
- 2
Align or replace
Sensors are re-aimed and secured, or replaced with a matching set if a unit is dead. Broken wire is repaired or renewed.
- 3
Test with an obstacle
We run the door down, interrupt the beam and watch it reverse, then repeat the test with the opener's force checked.
Sensor Questions From New Owners
- Why does my door only close with the button held?
- That behavior usually means the opener cannot confirm a clear path. Misaligned, dirty or disconnected sensors are the most common reason, and putting them right brings back normal closing from the remote, the wall button or the keypad.
- Can I bypass the sensors?
- We do not recommend it. They protect people, pets and cars from a closing door. If they are annoying because they malfunction, the right fix is repairing them, which is usually quick and keeps that protection intact.
- Do both sensors need replacing?
- Not always. If one still works and a matching replacement exists, a single unit can be swapped. Older mismatched units are often easier to replace as a pair, and we will say which route suits your door.
