Garage Door Weather Seal Replacement in Alva

New bottom and side seals close the daylight, leaves and critters that a newly bought garage may let in, and help the door sit snug.

The Seals Around the Door

Rubber or vinyl seals run along the bottom of the door, and stop moulding frames the sides and top. They fill the small gaps between a moving door and a fixed opening. After years in the sun, they harden, crack and flatten.

Once you live in the house, you notice what the viewing missed: a thin stripe of light along the floor edge, leaves in the corner, ants along the threshold. We check the bottom seal's track, fit a matching replacement and examine the side and top seals. A snug seal also keeps the garage tidier.

Gaps and Signs to Spot

  • Light along the bottom edge

Close the door and look from inside on a bright day. A visible line of daylight means the bottom seal has hardened, shrunk or torn.

  • Debris and visitors

Leaves, dust and insects collecting by the door suggest an open gap. A seal that no longer touches the floor lets them in freely.

  • Cracked, brittle or missing strips

Seals that snap when bent, or that hang loose from their retainer, have finished their useful life and are simple to replace.

What Replacement Involves

  1. 1

    Check the fit

We measure the door's width, note the retainer type on the bottom section and look at the floor, since an uneven slab changes what seal works best.

  2. 2

    Fit new seals

The old strip is slid out, the retainer is cleaned and a new seal is installed. Side and top stops are renewed or adjusted where needed.

  3. 3

    Close and inspect

With the door down, we look for light and gaps, then cycle it to be sure the new seal does not catch or drag.

Seal Questions From New Owners

Can I replace a bottom seal myself?
Sometimes, if the retainer type is common and the door is in good shape. Matching the profile is the tricky part, and we can do it quickly if you would rather hand the whole job over.
Will a new seal stop all pests?
It closes a major entry point but cannot seal every crack in a garage. Gaps at the sides and along the slab matter too, and we will point out any we find while we are there.
Why does my seal tear after a few months?
A door that closes unevenly, a rough floor or a seal in the wrong profile can chew it up. We look for the cause rather than simply replacing the strip and hoping for better luck.
